Our Ministry

We preach, teach, and share God’s Word in its truth and purity.

Greetings in the Lord Jesus Christ!  The Lord’s flock here at Bethlehem are thankful to have a firm footing in the Word of God.  He has enriched us with a beautiful church campus.  Our steeple can be seen from a frequently trafficked highway, U.S. Route 31. The Lord has blessed us richly in the middle of the pandemic, but he has promised that we will see even greater things than this.  We are confident that, as long as the Lord sheds light on this world, he has future work to bless on our grounds here in Carmel.

Our services include weekly Sunday services at 10:15am and special services for Lent, Easter, Thanksgiving Eve, Advent, Christmas Eve, and Christmas Day. We hold member baptisms, weddings, and funerals at Bethlehem. Many of our services are enhanced by our active choir.

The Lord is on the move in these areas of ministry:

Adult & Youth Discipleship

We have active Sunday morning and Wednesday night Bible classes for adults to continue growing in the Word.  We credit much of our unity to the weekly sacrament (holy communion.)

Sunday school is taught every Sunday at 9 am, and our brilliant superintendent has kept our teachers and curriculum organized.  Confirmation classes for 7th-8th graders prepare their hearts for communion.  We have an active youth group called “Luther’s Youthers.”  Luthers Youthers meet weekly on Sunday mornings, and hold special events including cookie decorating, top golf, and national youth rallies.

We have started a men’s group and a women’s group.  Men have begun sharing hobbies and interests and women are in the middle of a reading club.  Our Rooted group for young adults meets for monthly Bible studies and activities.

Little Town of Bethlehem Preschool

This 18-year-old ministry of Bethlehem Lutheran Church keeps our building busy during the week.  We offer four hours of Christian education daily.  This is the most diverse little population of children you could imagine, frequently drawing from a local immigrant pockets.  Pastor Bode conducts a weekly chapel for the children.  Our director, Mrs. Schilling, has a passion for showing love and showing Jesus to little children.

We believe that, whether you are man, woman, or child, you should know that Christ gives you his good news and brings you into his kingdom.  So we make it a main goal of our whole lives to help others, the sick and the needy.  This is true for each Bethlehem member personally, in whatever position God has called us.  But we are also redoubling our efforts in giving to soldiers overseas, in making plastic bag mats for the homeless, in food and clothing drives, and in whatever ways we can.  The only reason we do this is Jesus Christ.

Having recently celebrated our five-year anniversary in the new building, we rejoice in God’s constant love and steady hand.  Our new addition has seen two pastors, three called-worker installations, over a dozen youth confirmation vows, and a great deal of brilliant stained-glass sunlight.  Our foundation is much bigger than our building, because we are built on God’s foundation of apostles and prophets, with Christ as our cornerstone.  This is exciting just to write!  After all, God sent the angels to the fields of Bethlehem with “good news of great joy … for all people”! (Luke 2:10)
